Vision for my businessVision for my business and vision of a better life.

My decision to break free from the 9-to-5 (or 7-to-6, as was more often the case) was borne from both the successful business I envisioned running and the better life I wanted for myself.

Flourishing start-ups occupy niches in the market, and my business model is no different, providing much-needed bespoke tuition for students with a variety of needs, but at the core of its success is me.

While this sounds self-congratulatory, what I mean by this is the change in my lifestyle that has allowed me, and therefore the business, to prosper. No more grind. No more early mornings, no more dishwater-dull meetings, no more raging in rush hour traffic.

Instead, I run my life. I have creative control over the business, I make the decisions, I reap the benefits, and I find that rather than constantly feeling that I’m wasting time, I have more time. More time for my family, my friends, and myself, and infinitely more freedom.

This wonderful balance is central to the success of Crescent Tuition. I was attentive to startup costs, and the decisions I made were all investment based, including opting for a succinct and beautiful website.

The website builder I worked with; Blue Web, realised my vision for my business and now their framework allows me to continue to market and expand the business. It’s the lynchpin that brings the clients to the service, the work to the tutors and gives the business a streamlined online presence. In a sense, the website is the face of the business, and is fundamental to it's success.

Now, I find myself in a fortunate position, having checked three boxes I feel were crucial in the realisation of what was once an idea; firstly, the removal of whichever mental barriers that had held me in a grey day-job for so long; secondly, the quiet determination to be in control of my future; and finally, the materialisation of a platform – in my case, Crescent Tuition’s website – to enable the business to run smoothly.

The rewards are plenty; including a life that runs smoother, too. I recommend you contact Blue Web if you have a vision you want to become a reality.

Statistical Consultant Website Design

Website Design for Statistical Consulting.

Many companies and organisations are sitting on a wealth of information that can provide insights and value. In fact for many companies this information can be their most important market differentiator. For example, supermarkets and onlines stores may transact thousands of items, they need to understand why certain items sell, what is it that determine more sales?

With an online store, small alterations to the user interface or upselling and cross selling at certain points may affect profitability. For supermarkets, positioning items on shelves, at certain times or particular offers may all all affect profitability. The key is to unlock this information through statistical analysis, segmentation and value analysis. Where best to target the organisations marketing spend.

Marriott Statistical Consulting, works with all types of organisations in research, modelling, intelligence, forecasting and planning. Collecting, measuring, presenting, analysing and interpreting data. Helping to help make informed business and organisational decisions.

Their new website contains a formal website detailing the services available and a more informal blog on statistics and predictions on various current events, from weather to sport to politics.

Oven cleaning website design

Oven cleaning website design

Oven cleaning website design.

Following the success of the Kitchen Cleaning Group website designed by Blue Web, we were asked to create a new Oven Cleaning website. You can read more about the Kitchen Cleaning Group here.

The website was tested against many different web browsers and is optimised as a mobile first design.

We recognise that many people are browsing the web on mobiles and so the website needed to load fast and work well on all mobiles.

Not forgetting of course the need to load quickly and fast on tablets, laptops and other larger devices.

If you want to see which web browsers are in use nowadays across the web, including mobile phones, see this page on usage share of web browsers from Wikipedia.

Tip, if you're still using Internet Explorer, we recommend changing to another browser, such as google Chrome or firefox. Internet Explorer is reaching end of life and may introduce security risks for it's users.

Try out the new oven cleaning website and you'll see how quickly and cleanly the website loads on your device.

Website Design and Intranet for masonry companyWebsite Design and Intranet.

Farleigh Masonry is a Supplier of sawn and finished masonry to the trade.

They deal with all sizes of projects providing cut masonry from beautiful Bath Stone, to Portland, Limestone and Sandstone.

Masonry is available in a range of colours and grades to suit different building facades and types.

Many clients are prestigious buildings in London and elsewhere including BBC buildings, and royal family memorials. They have opened a new multi million pound factory soon and needed the new website design primarily to provide information on the range of masonry products they provide to their suppliers.

Having worked with Blue Web previously, Farleigh Masonry had no hesitation in asking us to quote for their new Website Design and Intranet for their newly expanded business.

Intranet for internal company use.

As well as the main Website Design,  Blue Web also provided a secure intranet for internal staff use to publish internal news and documentation. Clearly an intranet needed to be simple to use and secure to ensure internal news and documentation was handled efficiently and effectively.

ecommerce websiteEcommerce Website, products for the maritime sector.

Ecommerce websites range from simple shops to more complex sites, Ocean Footprint is the latter.

As a Marine Ecommerce Website, Ocean Footprint is focused on the needs of maritime vessels including yacht's and commercial marine vessels and products for marine professionals.

Variations on a theme.

Products such as air conditioning units, electric motors, plumbing parts etc, are all available in different shapes and sizes. In the language of ecommerce, these are known as product attributes.

Just as a clothing store stocks, shirts in different sizes and colours, marine products can have hundreds or even thousands of different variations. Such as; dimensions, voltage, material, power, etc.

This of course leads to a complexity of product management and online display.

Simplicity of product selection.

The trick with displaying marine engineering products in an online shop, is to make the selection of your specific requirement easy.

Rather than scrolling through endless tables of product variants, the purchaser can select for example the specific dimensions, voltage, material and power rating they require.

The system will then dynamically interrogate the database and display the product model and price based on the desired specification.

Horse Power.

Of course, dynamically interrogating the database and presenting the correct product model for purchase is a fairly heavy database activity.

This all needs to happen within a second, to ensure the website visitor is not kept waiting. The performance required is achieved through specially configured high performance hosting provided by Blue Web.

Designed with a difference.

You might also notice that the home page of Ocean Footprint has footprints appearing in the sand next to the ocean, If you need something a little different designed for your website, get in touch to discuss it with us.

A business website has one purpose in our view.

To bring in business.

Whether directly through an online shop, or indirectly by convincing prospective customers to contact you with business enquiries.

  • A website that converts traffic into customers.

Various factors affect the ability to deliver Website Traffic and a Converting Website as follows:

To Generate Traffic to a Website requires:

Advertising
Social Media
Word of Mouth
Search Engine Optimisation
Marketing

To Convert Website Traffic into enquiries requires:

Original design
Quality original content
Good navigation
Clear 'Call to Action'
Mobile Enabled

Wiltshire Electrics has been established in Wiltshire and Somerset for many years. A family run business, they have been providing quality electrical installations in domestic and commercial properties and focus on energy efficiency and the associated costs savings. The new website has been designed to reflect modern web design with a twist. For example instead of using traditional web menus, the site employs electrical switches to select pages and content.

Wiltshire Electrics has received may plaudits from its customers, so the new website now includes reviews and the ability for customers to add their own review of the services provided, all Wiltshire Electrics has to do is provide a link to the review page. Customers can upload before and after images and rate the electrical work done.

Specialist website design for Business Consultants.

Many business executives offer a great deal of experience and knowledge that they can impart to other companies and it makes sense that they start their own consultancy business.

In today's rapidly changing world, companies require expertise and support from consultants that can cast an objective eye over an organisation's opportunities, threats, staff and technical issues to name a few.

A New Business and Career World.

Markets are changing more quickly that ever before and new, flexible resources are required to meet this demand. The old established model of full time, long term employment does not fit the new market dynamic and can slow an organisations' progress. Often, staff suffer from the 'can't see the wood for the trees' or are 'too close to a project' to see what is plain to an external consultant.

Clearly there is a level of security in working for an established employer and stepping out on your own can be a risky business. Ultimately though, it is a question of control, who is in control of your working life and even potentially your whole life? It takes a certain level of courage to step out on your own, but it's worth remembering that an employer can not only direct you to do work you might not enjoy, but can pull the rug from underneath your feet at any time. Many people in fact spend their whole working life wondering if they could set out on their own but never take the plunge.

Working as a business consultant or business coach or in any consultative capacity is not all plain sailing though, your income will vary from low to high rather than a fixed amount per month. So it's worth having a financial buffer, maybe savings or sometimes a redundancy package from a previous job can be valuable. The upside, though is that you get to keep the rewards of work rather than your employer, so the income potential is a lot greater.

What about a franchise in business consultancy, business coaching or other franchise?

Business Consultancy Career Choice?

Consultancy Career Choice?

As a kind of half way house between employment and setting out on your own, as self employed or through your own limited company, the option of taking on a consulting franchise exists. We don't recommend this route, for the following reasons; The pros are that you are taking on an established brand, however, is the brand reputation good? And most importantly it will never be your brand. All your efforts will go towards supporting and representing the brand, which may help you whilst you effectively work for the brand, but this brand value will be lost when you eventually break away and will have to start from scratch building your own brand reputation.

Franchise Cost and Inflexibility.

Franchises can be very expensive, in the multiple tens of thousands to buy plus ongoing marketing fees, but what do you really get for this expense? Franchises, particularly the USA based ones tend to follow a formula, which means you have to follow this formula, this can stifle individual flair and it's clear that for businesses receiving consulting services, one size does not fit all. They key with good consulting is to listen to the clients issues and provide a bespoke service that fits the requirement. This can be better done when you are in full control, not applying a pre-described format to every company.

Brand Strength and Control.

It's far better to create your own brand and build your reputation, based on client results, who will be happy to sing your and your own brand's praises. This is the path to a successful consultancy. Your business will grow by recommendation and your website will reflect your professionalism, services and satisfied clients.

Hardington Vale WebsiteHardington Vale Parish comprises six churches in rural Somerset, including Farleigh Hungerford, Hemington, Laverton, Norton St Philip, Rode and Tellisford. Part of the Deanery of Frome in the Wells Archdeaconry and within the Diocese of Bath & Wells.

As an active community, the parishioners needed to update their old website and turned to Blue Web to design a vibrant new website that they could easy manage and update themselves. The website is updated weekly with every church service, special events, prayer meetings, local parish news, and seasonal activities such as Christmas carol services, Easter and many other activities in the busy church calendar.

Keeping up with the times, the parish website also includes a blog and news from the rector on a regular basis. For the development of the site, multiple views and opinions on the design were taken into account and a competition was held amongst the parishioners to design the new website logo.

Wesley Kitt of Blue Web stated that:

Many websites we do are for businesses, it makes a nice change to work with a community website where the goals are somewhat different o a business. At the same time, the ability to update the website easily and focus on what's important to the local parishioners has similarities to business websites. One significant difference in the development of the site was agreeing and satisfying the needs of  a range of interested parties across the parish.
